Tai Chi... WithKate

Outdoor Tai Chi Classes in Hamble & Victoria Country  Park

Tai Chi for mind, body and nature.

Weekly outdoor group

classes & regular 1:1s available for all.

What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi is a traditional Chinese movement practice and martial art combining slow, flowing movements with breath and focused awareness.

Often described as a moving meditation, Tai Chi can support balance, relaxation, grounding and a sense of calm.

The gentle, continuous movements encourage harmony between mind, body and soul, supporting presence, coordination, and ease.

Why I Teach Tai Chi.

My journey with Tai Chi began as a way of creating more space for stillness in everyday life. What I discovered was far more than a series of gentle movements. Through regular practice, Tai Chi became a source of balance, presence and quiet strength that continues to support my wellbeing.

It is this experience that inspires my teaching. My aim is to create a welcoming, unhurried space where people can slow down, move mindfully and gently reconnect with themselves through the practice of Tai Chi.

Whether you are completely new to Tai Chi or returning to your practice, you will be encouraged to learn at your own pace, in a supportive and relaxed environment. My hope is that you leave each class feeling calmer, more grounded and carrying a little of that sense of balance with you into everyday life.

A Journey to Stillness

All classes take place outdoors, surrounded by trees, open skies, fresh air and the grounding earth beneath our feet. The natural surroundings become part of the practice itself, supporting a deeper sense of calm and connection while helping us slow down, untangle thoughts, and move with greater awareness.

Please wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing so you can move freely and enjoy the session. Practising in nature allows the rhythm of the shoreline and the whispers of the wind to guide your movement, fostering a mental space that is both spacious and grounded.

What to Expect

Our sessions are gentle and welcoming for everyone, offering a quiet space to reconnect.

During each class, we weave together soft stretching, foundational movements and guided flow with a focus on breath and balance.

This is a supportive group experience held in nature, designed to help you leave feeing grounded and calm.

  • "Kate's Tai Chi classes are the perfect combination of spiritual and grounded.

The nature spots are beautiful, always by the water and open to the elements, enticing you to feel a deeper connection to your surroundings. Laughter, play and calm are at the centre of every practice. I always come away feeling more me!"

  • I’ve been enjoying Tai Chi classes outdoors in Royal Victoria Country Park with Kate for several months now.

I find that a Saturday morning class sets me up for the weekend both mentally and physically. I feel an immediate release of whatever pain and tension I’ve been holding that week during every class.

The combination of the slow intentional movements, Kate’s considerate teaching, and the beautiful outdoor setting help me focus and relax. I really feel it if I miss a week as Kate’s classes have helped to calm my mind and improve my strength and balance.

I highly recommend Tai Chi classes with Kate.

  • Kate has an amazing energy which I loved straight away when I started her Tai Chi classes on a Thursday evening.

She is such a good teacher...very clear and absolutely puts no pressure on for learning the moves.

She makes it fun and takes time to explain all the moves.

Being outside and facing the river makes for such a beautiful part of the experience too.

Sometimes I arrive a little frazzled from what that day has brought but by the end of the Tai chi session I am totally peaceful and calm.  Or sometimes fired up with lively energy!...it just gives you what you need on an individual basis! It is a very relaxed friendly group too.

Tai Chi with Kate makes my mind, body and soul feel balanced and connected. So grateful to my friend for recommending Kate and her Tai Chi classes.

  • I’ve been learning Tai Chi with Kate for about a year now, one morning class and an evening class.

Kate brings such warmth, positivity and enthusiasm to every class. She has a wonderful way of making learning enjoyable while sharing a deep knowledge and understanding of Tai Chi. Her encouragement and cheerful nature create a welcoming atmosphere that I always look forward to being part of.

As someone who has recently been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, Tai Chi has been a real source of support for me. The gentle, flowing movements of the spine, combined with the focus on breathing and opening the rib cage, have helped me enormously with both my posture and my breathing. In many ways, it feels like a saving grace—giving me a sense of freedom and ease in my body that can be difficult to find elsewhere.

I’m so grateful to have found Kate and her classes. They have brought not only physical benefits but also a greater sense of calm and wellbeing. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone, whatever their age or ability.

  • As a 'newbie' to this group and to Tai Chi I have found it to be a great experience.

The group is very welcoming and Hamble foreshore provides a special setting to enjoy the sessions well led in a relaxed way by Kate. The gentle flowing movements, all done at our own pace, have a positive impact on wellbeing.

Fun, calmness, peace - a time to connect with others, self and the world around us.  Thank you Kate.

  • My tai chi lessons with Kate have been amazing. I started around September 2025 and, I have to say, I love every moment of them.

Kate is a very inspirational teacher. She’s very hands on when required and makes our sessions super fun.

Our sessions are held outdoors (yes even in the rain) which adds to grounding and feeling at one with nature.

I have met some lovely people who have similar interests which helps to make every session extra special.

So if you want to try out tai chi yourself don’t hesitate to come and join the clan.

  • I’ve really enjoyed learning Tai Chi with Kate since I started in September 2025. Her teaching style is relaxed, inclusive and encouraging, and she brings a great sense of humour and creativity to every class. Her memorable and humorous analogies make the movements easy to understand and remember. I’ve also learned so much about breathing, grounding and mindful movement, helping to improve my balance, body awareness and sense of calm.

Practising outdoors in parks and near the seafront has become one of my favourite parts of the week. Being outside through the changing seasons, whatever the weather or light, feels grounding. It helps you connect with nature and the changing environment, which really enhances the practice.

I also appreciate how easy Kate makes it to join in. She sends reminders through a Messenger group, you simply give a thumbs up if you’re coming, and it’s pay as you go with no subscriptions or pressure to attend every week.

The classes leave me feeling calmer, more balanced and more connected, both to myself and to the lovely group of people who come along. If you’re looking for Tai Chi that’s welcoming, enjoyable and free from any sense of obligation, I’d wholeheartedly recommend Kate’s classes.
